The Mel's Milers 10k takes place annually, usually the last Sunday of March or the first Sunday in April. With around 300 entrants it is has a friendly atmosphere and a fantastic setting, starting and finishing in the avenue next to the quadrangle of Christ's Hospital school. Bluecoat Sports Centre provides the Race HQ, with shower and changing facilities as well as the cafe upstairs, where the awards will be presented after the race.
The twelfth staging of the race will take place on Sunday 30th March 2014 at 11:00am. (Please note that clocks go forward one hour on race day.)
Chip timing was used last in 2013 for the first time. Invicta East Kent provided the chip timing service, and the full results can be viewed by clicking on the 2013 Results link below. Chip Timing UK will provide the chip timing service for 2014, and will provide a similar results service.
The race is on mixed terrain which is mostly off-road, taking in a lap of the school grounds before heading off to Southwater along the Downs Link, through the CountryPark, and back along the Downs Link. In dry conditions this can be a fast course, being mainly flat and also an ideal first-time race.
Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd men and ladies, as well as age category awards for over 40, over 50 and over 60 men and women. To encourage more younger runners the entry age has been lowered to 15, and additional prizes will be awarded to the first under 18 male and female runners. All finishers will receive a medal.
Each year a donation is made to a charity from the proceeds of the race. The 2014 charity is the Chanctonbury Community Play Scheme. Previous charities supported include the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the Mary How Trust, Ingfield Manor and Help for Heros, Springboard, Sussex Air Ambulance and Chestnut Tree House.
