About

Mel’s Milers Jogging Club was founded in the year 2000 by Melanie Marlow to provide a daytime running club at Bluecoats Sports Centre, Christ’s Hospital School where there were crèche facilities thus enabling parents with young children to run.

Over the years the club has grown and although many of it’s members no longer use the crèche facilities,  this facility is still available. The club has many long standing members, but is always happy to welcome new members. Membership numbers are usually around 60-70, but there is no limit!

The club celebrated it’s 10th Anniversary with a party at Mannings Heath Golf Club which included dancing to a ceilidh band and eating a delicious cake, made by one of our members. Since 2003 the Club has organised an annual trip away to usually participate in a half marathon. Locations have included Bruges, Jersey, Prague, Malta, Barcelona, Lake Maggiore, Lisbon, Naples, Seville and most recently Portofino. Whilst these trips do involve a race, the emphasis is very much on the social element.

Many of our members have not been running for long before joining our club and it’s good to see individual’s confidence grow, enabling them to eventually participate in a variety of races with distances ranging from 5km right through to marathons and ultras. Races provide the opportunity to test personal performance and over the years members have achieved some very impressive times with age categories often being won. However, for some members a race is more about having a good day out and there is nearly always a plan for a social gathering afterwards!
